Pianist Minna Han, whose musical gifts have drawn accolades ever since she was six years old, specializes in some of the most difficult works of Beethoven and Liszt. Her daredevil performances are praised as “profound,” “compelling” and “filled with remarkable changes of color.” The international performer made her solo New York debut at Carnegie Hall’s prestigious Weill Recital Hall in 2008.

Dr. Han has performed with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Los Angeles Chamber Ensemble, and the Glendale City Orchestra. Her solo and joint recitals also include appearances at the famed Wilshere Ebell Theater, Pasadena Auditorium in Los Angles area and Steinway Hall in New York, as well as at the University of Southern California, the University of Ontario in Canada, the “Young Artist Series” at the Eawon Cultural Arts Center in Seoul, Seoul Baroque Chamber Hall, Recital Hall and IBK Chamber Hall in Seoul Arts Center, Kumho Art Hall, Yongsan Art Hall in South Korea.

She won the Artist International Presentations Award, as well as the Southern California Youth Piano Competition, the Southern California Junior Bach Competition, the Glendale Concerto Competition and the Rising Star Audition in Fairfax, Virginia. She also was a finalist or semi-finalist in the Concert Artist Guild International Competition in New York City, the Kingsville International Young Performers Competition, and the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, she started the piano at age six, quickly winning local piano competitions in Seoul. At age eleven, she came in first in Korea’s national piano competition and was a guest performer at the Seo-Cho District Office in Seoul. At age sixteen, she moved to Torrance, California. She received merit scholarships from the Korean American Scholarship Foundation and the Korean Embassy in the United States.

Dr. Han received B.M. and M.M. degrees from Indiana University, where she was an associate instructor. A member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society, Dr. Han earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Maryland. Her dissertation topic–the music relating to death: its musical value and reflection of diverse images–often surprises anyone who meets the exuberant musician.

Former faculty member of Frederick College, Musical Expressions, INC, and International School of Music in the states, Dr. Han is currently Assistant professor of music in piano performance at the University of Suwon in South Korea. She also enthusiastically performs widely as a co-leader of ‘Ensemble Mosaic’ and a duo member of ‘Duo Soliste’, formerly known as ‘Duo Soleo’ with her violinist duo member, Ji Yun Lee through the U.S and South Korea.
